County Fair

first bite of cotton candy

he loved it, had about 5 pieces, and then didn't want any more. it's cool to see him self-regulate like that.
he loved the ferris wheel, which he called a water wheel

first ever pony ride. he asked to do it ("ride! wanna ride!") but once he was up there he was mostly concerned.

Pool! + haircut

The city pool is finally open! The best thing about it is this magical activity pool, which is a moat about 1 1/2 feet deep surrounding a climbing structure with stairs and slides and ropes to pull that release water and all sorts of waterfalls. It costs $3 per child but is free for attendants, which of course I love. I will steal my mom's phone next time to take better pictures. The activity pool is only open to kids 9 and under, and there is such an overwhelming sense of joy emanating from every kid there. It's a lot of fun.

Next up, I shaved his head!! Scott, are you happy now?!
I really was just trying to trim it back because it's getting to be so hot here, I wanted to try to get it off his neck. I was going to do a sort of mohawk dreadlock thing, but he was too wiggly for precision cutting. So then I shaved everything but the dreadlocks, and he just looked like a hare krishna so I cut them off too. It really broke my heart. So much ego is wrapped up in how we present our kids to the world as extensions of ourselves, and if you say you don't participate in that then you are a big fat liar.
My dad says he looks like a yoga instructor in this outfit:

Old Flume Trail

white globelily
stopping for a snack

exploring a tiny dry waterfall

This Sunday's adventure was a hike down the Old Flume Trail. Lots of beautiful ferns, grasses, lichen, and wildflowers, my favorite being the globe lily (pictured at top). Another drizzly day adventure, but Dave inspired me yesterday to go out despite the rain-- we visited a creek and threw stones down a storm drain and splashed barefoot in puddles.
